Since starting his career in horticulture as an apprentice to the Greater London Parks Department, Simon has gone on to work in a number of different areas of horticulture, picking up key skills and experience along the way. From parks and open spaces and grounds maintenance contracts to the supply of professional and retail horticultural products, Simon's vast and varied career within horticulture means he brings with him a unique understanding of both the customer and the industry itself.

Martin joined Palmstead in August 2018 having previously worked as a Ground Maintenance Manager for local authorities. Martin’s knowledge and passion for horticulture combined with his experience as a commercial customer and as a sales person gives him a unique viewpoint on the industry. Privately Martin is a keen motorcyclist and photographer. He loves outdoor activities and nature.

Geoff started at Palmstead just for a holiday job in 2001, got the plant bug and has stayed on ever since. After helping to form a successful Young Plant Department as its manager for a number of years, Geoff has now taken on a new challenge within the company in the role of Designer Sales Manager.

An active gardener at home testing out new and interesting plants; his favourite garden is Great Dixter. With a degree in Religion and Philosophy, he has also gained Management Diplomas, Psychology Diplomas and a Health and Safety Nebosh Certificate and is the Company's health & safety officer.

Denise joined Palmstead in 2008 after working for 25 years in sales and customer services in a television studio. She places great importance on knowing our customers and looking after their enquiries; a real customer champion.

A keen gardener and stalwart of her local Horticultural Club; sweet peas and Dahlias are her favourite plants. Denise enjoys visiting gardens when the duties of chief family organiser allow.

Adam has been with Palmstead for more than 10 years. He left a career in retail horticulture to join us to increase his knowledge of the commercial side of the industry. He started as a picker; was promoted to goods inwards and then outwards supervisor; has been involved with procurement and logistics; and now works as our designer sales executive. Adam has fantastic plant knowledge and says that horticulture has been his passion from day one. He is fascinated with the natural world and is a sucker for anything involving plants and animals.

Marta joined the company in October 2014, leaving the position as a C&C Supervisor in another plant nursery near Manchester to join our plant centre, Palmstead Plants. Marta has a Masters degree in horticulture, garden design experience and passion for plants. She loves stylish contemporary gardens, probably because they are as well organised as she is. Marta enjoys travelling and photography, she is also the author of all the lovely photos on our website. In January 2018 Marta joined the Marketing department and is also responsible for all the e-commerce tasks.

Martin joined Palmstead in January 2018 taking on the role of production manager. With more than 25 years' experience in the horticultural sector he brings a host of new ideas and innovative solutions to our production department. He is looking for a challenge and feels his new role will certainly provide that.


Mark Chapman | Maintenance & Innovation Manager

With an engineering background and many years experience on the nursery; Mark leads the maintenance team in keeping the nursery equipment functioning and is at the forefront of all internal development. Recent developments include expansions of the pot grown tree areas and re-grading and draining of production beds. The latter development has been key in increasing our ability to capture a greater level of rainfall for recycling.

Peter joined Palmstead in 1980 straight after leaving school at 16 and has performed every job on the nursery. This University of Life training has equipped Peter to manage our operations department, making sure customer orders are picked and delivered accurately. Peter enjoys the people and teamwork and seeing the company progress from 3 acres to a major supplier. His favourite garden is Trentham Gardens in Staffordshire, a bold example of the Perennial Movement. Football is another great passion which Peter shares with his family, though there are few Arsenal supporting colleagues to commiserate with.

Robin joined Palmstead in January 2018 as our customer operations manager. He always had an interest in road transport because he enjoys the challenge it provides and because no two days are ever the same. Robin is a huge sports fan, enjoying rugby union, golf and Formula 1. His favourite plant is the rose because it means so many things to so many different people.

Inocculated with horticulture from an early age, his father was big in the world of geraniums. Whilst gaining a BSc in horticulture from Writtle College, Mark travelled and worked in Switzerland, US and UK before landing at Palmstead in 1993. Mark's IT skills have driven the improvements in our IT systems and our irrigation and climate control systems are down to his programming. Technology is an increasing important part of the company and Mark keeps our systems going, there is now one computer for every 2.5 staff.

John has always had a passion for plants, starting as a nine-year-old growing vegetables in his parent's back garden. Before he started college he worked for two years in a nursery gaining valuable knowledge and experience. After graduating he went on to work in a garden centre in London while starting to build up his own nursery stock at weekends. In 1968 John left the garden centre and opened Palmstead, which has grown into a 50 ha site and is one of the largest nurseries in the South-East.

Kim says that she was always meant for a career involving numbers. Before she joined Palmstead in the summer 2017 she worked as a school business manager for 12 years. Kim has an AAT qualification and this combination of experience and training mixed with a true love of maths makes her the perfect finance manager. Apart from numbers, she also has a love of music, especially Northern Soul.
