Luzula nivea (snow rush) is a member of the Juncaceae family. This grasse exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) – hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.
When fully mature, Luzula nivea can reach an ultimate height of 0.5–1 metres and a spread of 0.1–0.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers east–facing, north–facing aspect and exposed, sheltered exposure. It thrives best in clay, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full shade, partial shade position.
