Mahonia japonica (Japanese mahonia) is a member of the Berberidaceae family. This evergreen shrub exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc), and is hardy through most of the uk even in severe winters. may not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk. and features a flower fragrance.
When fully mature, Mahonia japonica can reach an ultimate height of 1–1.5 metres and a spread of 1.5–2.5 metres. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full shade, partial shade, full sun position.
