Ilex crenata (Japanese holly) is a member of the Aquifoliaceae family. This topiary exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H6 and no significant fragrance.

When fully mature, Ilex crenata can reach an ultimate height of 4–8 metres and a spread of 1–1.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing,west–facing,east–facing aspect and exposed,sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk,loam,sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun,partial shade position.
