Davidia involucrata (handkerchief tree) is a member of the Nyssaceae family. This tree exhibits a spreading branched growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) and is hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.

When fully mature, Davidia involucrata can reach an ultimate height of Higher than 12 metres and a spread of Wider than 8 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing or north–facing or west–facing or east–facing aspect and sheltered positions. It thrives best in chalk or clay or loam or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun or partial shade.
