Carpinus betulus 'Frans Fontaine' (hornbeam 'Frans Fontaine') is a member of the Betulaceae family. This trees exhibits a columnar upright growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H7 and no significant fragrance.

When fully mature, Carpinus betulus 'Frans Fontaine' can reach an ultimate height of 8–12 metres and a spread of 2.5–4 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing,west–facing,east–facing aspect and exposed,sheltered exposure.
