Cynara cardunculus (cardoon) is a member of the Asteraceae family. This perennials exhibits a columnar upright growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H5 and no significant fragrance.
When fully mature, Cynara cardunculus can reach an ultimate height of 1.5–2.5 metres and a spread of 1–1.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers west–facing,east–facing,south–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk,loam,sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
