Carex pendula (pendulous sedge) is a member of the Cyperaceae family. This grasse exhibits a clump forming, tufted growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – very cold winter (-20 to -15ºc), and is hardy throughout the uk and northern europe. many plants grown in containers will be damaged unless given protection. .
When fully mature, Carex pendula can reach an ultimate height of 1–1.5 metres and a spread of 0.5–1 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers east–facing, south–facing, west–facing aspect and exposed, sheltered exposure. It thrives best in clay, loam, chalk, sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun, partial shade position.
