Kniphofia rooperi (Rooper's red-hot poker) is a member of the Asphodelaceae family. This perennial exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) and is hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.
When fully mature, Kniphofia rooperi can reach an ultimate height of 1–1.5 metres and a spread of 0.5–1 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing aspect and exposed or sheltered positions. It thrives best in loam or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun.
