Rudbeckia maxima (great coneflower) is a member of the Asteraceae family. This perennial exhibits a clump forming growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – very cold winter (-20 to -15ºc), and is hardy throughout the uk and northern europe. many plants grown in containers will be damaged unless given protection. .

When fully mature, Rudbeckia maxima can reach an ultimate height of 1.5–2.5 metres and a spread of 0.5–1 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers east–facing, south–facing, west–facing aspect and exposed, sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
