Cytisus scoparius (common broom) is a member of the Fabaceae family. This deciduous shrub is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc), and is hardy through most of the uk even in severe winters. may not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk. .

When fully mature, Cytisus scoparius can reach an ultimate height of 1–1.5 metres and a spread of 1–1.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing, west–facing aspect and exposed, sheltered exposure. It thrives best in loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
