Osmanthus aquifolium (thorny holly olive) is a member of the Oleaceae family. This evergreen shrub exhibits a spreading branched growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc), and is hardy through most of the uk even in severe winters. may not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk. and features a flower fragrance.

When fully mature, Osmanthus aquifolium can reach an ultimate height of 4–8 metres and a spread of 1.5–2.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing, west–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
