Prunus spinosa (blackthorn) is a member of the Rosaceae family. This deciduous shrubs exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H7 and no significant fragrance.

When fully mature, Prunus spinosa can reach an ultimate height of 2.5–4 metres and a spread of 2.5–4 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers west–facing,south–facing,north–facing,east–facing aspect and exposed,sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk,clay,loam,sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
