Mahonia japonica (Japanese mahonia) is a member of the Berberidaceae family. This evergreen shrubs exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H5 and features a flower fragrance.

When fully mature, Mahonia japonica can reach an ultimate height of 1–1.5 metres and a spread of 1.5–2.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers north–facing,west–facing,east–facing,south–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk,clay,loam,sand soil types and should be placed in a full shade,partial shade,full sun position.
