Product description & Growing guide

Musa basjoo (Japanese banana) is a member of the Musaceae family. This perennial exhibits a suckering growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of tender – cool or frost-free glasshouse (1 to 5ºc) and is tolerant of low temperatures but will not survive being frozen. Except in frost-free inner-city areas or coastal extremities requires glasshouse conditions in winter, but can be grown outdoors once risk of frost is over

When fully mature, Musa basjoo can reach an ultimate height of 2.5–4 metres and a spread of 1.5–2.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing aspect and sheltered positions. It thrives best in chalk or loam or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun.
