Fatsia japonica (Japanese aralia) is a member of the Araliaceae family. This evergreen shrub exhibits a suckering growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc), and is hardy through most of the uk even in severe winters. may not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk. .

When fully mature, Fatsia japonica can reach an ultimate height of 2.5–4 metres and a spread of 2.5–4 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers west–facing, south–facing, east–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full shade, full sun, partial shade position.
