Kniphofia uvaria (red-hot poker) is a member of the Asphodelaceae family. This perennials exhibits a clump forming, columnar upright growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of and no significant fragrance.

When fully mature, Kniphofia uvaria can reach an ultimate height of 0.5–1 metres and a spread of 1–1.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing,west–facing aspect and exposed,sheltered exposure. It thrives best in loam,sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
