Phillyrea angustifolia (narrow-leaved mock privet) is a member of the Oleaceae family. This topiary exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) and is hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.
When fully mature, Phillyrea angustifolia can reach an ultimate height of 2.5–4 metres and a spread of 1.5–2.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing aspect and exposed or sheltered positions. It thrives best in sand soil types and should be placed in full sun or partial shade.
