Cedrus libani (cedar of Lebanon) is a member of the Pinaceae family. This conifer exhibits a spreading branched growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – very cold winter (-20 to -15ºc) and is hardy throughout the UK and northern Europe. Many plants grown in containers will be damaged unless given protection. It features a foliage fragrance.
When fully mature, Cedrus libani can reach an ultimate height of higher than 12 metres and a spread of 8 metres and above. For optimal growth, it prefers an east–facing, north–facing, south–facing, or west–facing aspect and an exposed or sheltered position. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun.
