Athyrium niponicum var. pictum (painted lady fern) is a member of the Woodsiaceae family. This ferns exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H5 and no significant fragrance.

When fully mature, Athyrium niponicum var. pictum can reach an ultimate height of 0.1–0.5 metres and a spread of 0.1–0.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers north–facing,east–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in clay,loam,sand soil types and should be placed in a full shade,partial shade position.
