Salvia officinalis (common sage) is a member of the Lamiaceae family. This culinary herb exhibits a bushy growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc), and is hardy through most of the uk even in severe winters. may not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk. .

When fully mature, Salvia officinalis can reach an ultimate height of 0.5–1 metres and a spread of 0.5–1 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing, north–facing, west–facing, east–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in clay, loam soil types and should be placed in a full sun, partial shade position.
