Primula vulgaris (primrose) is a member of the Primulaceae family. This perennial exhibits a clump forming growth habit and is characterized by its semi evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of very hardy (colder than -20ºc) and is hardy in the severest European continental climates including exposed upland locations in the UK. It features a flower fragrance.
When fully mature, Primula vulgaris can reach an ultimate height of Up to 10cm and a spread of 0–0.1 metre. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing or north–facing or west–facing or east–facing aspect and sheltered positions. It thrives best in chalk or clay or loam or sand soil types and should be placed in full sun or partial shade.
