Pachysandra terminalis (Japanese spurge) is a member of the Buxaceae family. This evergreen shrub exhibits a matforming growth habit and is characterized by its evergreen foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – cold winter (-15 to -10ºc) and is hardy through most of the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open or exposed sites or central / northerly locations. Many evergreens suffer foliage damage and plants in pots will be at increased risk.
When fully mature, Pachysandra terminalis can reach an ultimate height of 0.1–0.5 metres and a spread of 1–1.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers a north–facing or east–facing aspect and an exposed or sheltered position. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, or sand soil types and should be placed in full shade or partial shade.
