Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' (black cherry plum) is a member of the Rosaceae family. This tree is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of hardy – very cold winter (-20 to -15ºc) – hardy throughout the UK and northern Europe. Many plants grown in containers will be damaged unless given protection.
When fully mature, Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' can reach an ultimate height of 8–12 metres and a spread of Wider than 8 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing, north–facing, west–facing, east–facing aspect and exposed, sheltered exposure. It thrives best in chalk, clay, loam, sand soil types and should be placed in a full sun position.
