Matteuccia struthiopteris (shuttlecock fern) is a member of the Onocleaceae family. This ferns exhibits a suckering growth habit and is characterized by its deciduous foliage. It has a hardiness rating of H5 and no significant fragrance.

When fully mature, Matteuccia struthiopteris can reach an ultimate height of 1–1.5 metres and a spread of 1.5–2.5 metres. For optimal growth, it prefers south–facing,north–facing,west–facing,east–facing aspect and sheltered exposure. It thrives best in clay,loam,sand soil types and should be placed in a full shade,partial shade position.
